Cloud Nine-Eleven
Linda Ellis copyright 2002
How will I know he'll get them there?
When I talk to him in Heaven,
do my words just float up in the air?”
She
looked down at her daughter’s face
and searched her thoughts to find
the words to help her understand
in her pure and innocent mind.
“Honey,
your daddy was a hero
and they’ve a special place in Heaven
for God lets all the heroes stay
on a cloud named Nine-Eleven.
So
when you say your prayers at night,
just let your thoughts roam free
and address them to that special cloud
because you know that’s where he’ll be.”
As
she spoke she thought of the thousands
whose deaths were so sorrowfully grim
and she prayed too for all of those heroes
who are sharing that cloud with him.
From
a field in
the Pentagon to Ground Zero,
every innocent soul who left this earth
is to her, an honored hero.
Whether
they were headed for Washington,
Flight 93 or the Twin Towers,
they set out that morning not knowing
their lives would end in a matter of hours.
And
every Armed Forces soldier
who has died since that day in September
is yet another hero on that cloud
to respect and to remember.
she addresses thoughts to those above
as "destination: Cloud Nine-Eleven,
sent with a heart full of love."
And when her soul departs this earth
and slowly ascends to Heaven
she hopes to make just one brief stop
to salute the heroes on Cloud Nine-Eleven.
