BOOMERANG
Copyright 2001 Linda Ellis

Some people may call it karma,
but one thing I’ve come to know
is that we only reap in life
whatever it is we sow.

Although we try to follow
the planned course that we have charted,
so very often the finish line
is the same place where we started.

They say history repeats itself,
and if this statement is true
then good things you do for others
will always come back to you.

The blessings may not be instant
or not even recognized
or they may take many years
to be truly realized.

When you perform an act of kindness,
it is never unrequited
for there will always come a time
when you two are reunited.

Let these blessings we receive
in the days that we are living
be not the reason for this kindness,

but rather the joy we feel in giving.

We’re all in this life together

sharing the world with one another
and so it is we help ourselves,
each time we help each other.

If caring is not your priority
and your compassion is nil
and you’re convinced your life on earth
is just a void that you fill,

You may need someone’s help
before this earthly life you leave
and you’ll be sorry if what you’ve given
is then, what you’ll receive.

For like the endless ocean waves
that steadily roll to the shore
or the predictable route
of a revolving door…

Like the endless rhyming lyrics
of a childhood song that you sang,
your life’s actions will come back to you
...just like a boomerang.
